Healthier Kitchen Tools I Use Regularly
Small kitchen tools can quickly become clutter, so I try to avoid gadgets that only perform one obscure task. The items below have stayed in my kitchen because I genuinely reach for them.

1. Stainless Steel French Press
A stainless steel French press is a simple way to prepare coffee or loose-leaf tea. Stainless steel is durable, easy to clean, and avoids the plastic components found in many automatic coffee makers.
It's also compact, requires no paper filter, and gives you full control over brewing time and strength.
2. Fermentation Crock
If you make sauerkraut or other fermented vegetables, a fermentation crock helps keep vegetables submerged beneath the brine while gases escape.
Fermentation does require attention to cleanliness, salt ratios, temperature, and signs of spoilage, so use a tested recipe, especially when you're new to the process.
3. Cutco Knives
A few sharp, well-made knives are more useful than a large collection of mediocre ones. I use mine constantly for vegetables, herbs, fruit, meat, and everyday meal prep.
A chef's knife, paring knife, and serrated knife will cover most basic kitchen jobs. Proper technique, careful storage, and regular sharpening make cooking both easier and safer.
4. Egg Piercer
The incredible edible egg becomes a lot easier to make and peel when you use an egg piercer. For years, I ripped my boiled eggs apart trying to get the shell off. Piercing the eggs before boiling makes the shell come off perfectly every time, and I don't know how I lived so long without it.
5. Tea Kettle
I use an electric tea kettle daily for coffee, tea, and other hot beverages. It makes tea life a lot easier.
6. Glass, wood, or bamboo cutting boards
These offer a practical alternative to plastic cutting boards. Whatever material you choose, clean and dry your boards thoroughly, and use separate boards when needed to reduce cross-contamination.
7. Wood or bamboo utensils
These work well with cast iron, stainless steel, ceramic, and coated cookware because they're less likely to scratch the cooking surface than metal utensils.
8. Stainless Steel Mixing Bowls
Large stainless steel bowls are lightweight, durable, and useful for mixing, serving, washing produce, and holding prepped ingredients. Nested sets are especially convenient since they take up less storage space.
9. Glass Food Storage Containers
Non-plastic containers are great for packing lunches, carrying meals, and storing dry or refrigerated foods. They're durable and reduce your need for disposable bags and containers.
10. Ball + Mason jars
Useful for food storage, drinks, salads, sauces, and meal prep. I buy 8oz, 16oz, 32oz, and half gallon sizes. The best price I've found is at Walmart.
11. Specialty Mason Jar Lids
Pouring lids, drinking lids, sprouting screens, and fermentation accessories can turn an ordinary jar into a much more versatile tool.

You Do Not Need to Replace Everything at Once
A healthier kitchen is built through everyday habits, not a shopping spree.
Start with the pieces you use most often. If a pan is badly damaged, replace it with a more durable option. If cooking feels too time-consuming, choose one appliance that will genuinely make homemade meals easier. If your cabinets are crowded, clear out the tools you never use before buying anything new.
The best kitchen tools are the ones that help you prepare nourishing food consistently, fit your budget, and last long enough to justify the space they take up.
What kitchen appliance, pan, or tool do you use the most? Is there anything you'd add to this list?
